Rights group appeals to IGP, PSC Chair, wants CSP Iburu reinstated

A rights group, “Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative” has sent a passionate appeal letter to the duo of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun and Chairman of Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) requesting for reinstatement of former Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu, Anambra State, CSP Ifeanyi Iburu.

An appeal letter sent by Mr. Francis Pember a.k.a. Wakawaka of “Follow Me Talk” of City Radio 89.7FM Onitsha and Mr. Samuel Ifeanyi Nzeh of Love FM 104.5 Abuja both founding members of the Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative among other things asked that CSP Iburu be commended for his show of dexterity in his job.

According to the plea letter, “In a bold and symbolic move today, Mr. Francis a.k.a. “Follow Me Talk” of City Radio 89.7FM Onitsha and Mr. Samuel Ifeanyi Nzeh of Love FM 104.5 Abuja — both founding members of the Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative — have officially submitted an appeal letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The appeal letter is also copied to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), urging the immediate reinstatement and commendation of CSP Ifeanyi Iburu.

“The call follows the heroic rearrest of one of the fugitive suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai, involved in the brutal kidnap and murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly. Despite being removed from his post as RRS Commander, CSP Iburu personally pursued and apprehended the fugitive across state borders — at personal cost and risk — demonstrating unmatched loyalty and professionalism” it noted.

The letter emphasized that rewarding CSP Iburu would serve as a morale boost for the entire Nigeria Police Force, and send a powerful message that patriotism and dedication are still honored in the country.

Continuing, the appeal outlines ten reasons why reinstating or promoting CSP Iburu is both necessary and just, citing his unwavering service, national security relevance, and growing public support.

“This is not an attack on internal police decisions, but a patriotic civic call to uplift integrity and courage in service to Nigeria” the appeal letter read in part.

It also informed that public and civil society organizations were eagerly waiting for the IGP and PSC Chairman’s response, which may define future expectations of accountability, justice, and recognition in Nigeria’s law enforcement space.

It however, expressed that the plea was not to meddle in police operations, but to amplify integrity, dedication, and hope in the system.

“Let CSP Ifeanyi Iburu be an example that Nigeria still honors its heroes. We appreciate your fair consideration and look forward to the reaffirmation of justice through institutional support” it concluded.
