Geospatial Approach: OSGoF ready to migrate to World Geodetic System – Surveyor General

The Ag. Surveyor General of Federation, Surv. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has stated the readiness of the Office of the Surveyor General of Federation (OSGoF) to migrate from the Nigeria National Origin (NNO) to the World Geodetic System (WGS) 84 International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) 2014.

Surv. Adebomehin who made this known Tuesday while delivering welcome address on occasion of opening ceremony of the 2021 Survey Coordination Conference and Meeting of the Advisory Board on Survey Training in Abuja with the theme: “Geospatial Approach to Harness Agro Planning and Food Sustainability for Economic Development” said the migration was to achieve best practices in the geospatial world.

Surv. Adebomehin noted the move will ensure that as from 2022, all the maps will be produced based on the WGS 84-ITRF 2014.

He therefore, appealed to all the states in the country to also migrate to enable a common reference point and avoid the burdens of conversions to align with international best practices.
“Your presence demonstrates your genuine commitment towards the advancement of our country Nigeria, and understanding of the important role of surveyors in nation-building and economic prosperity.

“Sustainability for Economic Development” is deliberately selected to underpin the undisputed place of the agriculture as the substructure of socioeconomic growth and development. It is also reinforcing the economic diversification agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria” he said.

 

Also speaking, Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said physical presence of participants at the conference underscores the fact that they are winning the war against the virus in Nigeria.

Fashola who was represented by Surv. Akerele Omolola said they must remain hopeful, and continue to keep with the Covid-19 protocols and ensure vaccination in view of some other threatening variants.

 

He commended the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation for the bold Step taken in bringing together surveyors at such a time like this.

“Conferences as such are useful because they avail us the opportunities of ventilating on tropical issues through which solutions are proffer for mitigation. The conference theme, “Geospatial Approach to Harness Agro Planning and Food Sustainability for Economic Development” is apt” he said
