AKH-TRACADA commends Cross River Govt for creating Anti-Drug Club in schools

Anti – kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drugs Abuse Initiative (AKH – TRACADA) a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has commended the Cross River State Government for establishing Ant-Drug Club in both public and private school within the state.

In a press statement released in Abuja Saturday signed by AKH-TRACADA’s National Coordinator, Primate Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, it commended the Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu and Commissioner for Education, Sen Stephen Odey for establishing the Anti-Drug Club in schools saying that it will redirect the minds of students to positive engagements and remove their minds from drug related activities.

While pledging his total support to the new initiative, Ezeanyaeche stated AKH-TRACADA’s readiness as an anti-drug advocate to strategically partner with state government as partners in progress towards intensifying the drug abuse fight.

AKH-TRACADA which is formally registered with Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs and given its activities in the area of promoting the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state was better placed to give the drug abuse menace a bloody nose through intensified public enlightenment, sensitization, advocacy and awareness creation.

According to the statement, “AKH-TRACADA wishes to commend Cross River State governor, Sen. Bassey Otu and Commissioner for Education, Sen Stephen Odey for establishing the Anti-Drug club in schools which aims to combat drug abuse among students in both public and private schools.

“We are of the conviction that the initiative would focus the mind of students to better engagements and discourage them from illicit drug use and other illegal activities.

“However, as an anti-drug NGO desirous of fighting the menace through public enlightenment, strategic advocacy, AKH-TRACADA is ready to partner with Cross River government to combat Illicit Drug Use in the state.

“Our collaboration would be aimed at addressing the critical issue of illicit drug use in the State. With a shared commitment to combat rising drug use among students. The proposed partnership is focused on AKH-TRACADA joining force with the State government to implement comprehensive strategies focusing on policy development, advocacy initiatives, and stakeholder’s engagement to combat the proliferation of illicit drugs in the state.

“There is no doubt that illicit drug use poses a significant threat to the well-being of individuals and communities, undermining social cohesion and economic development. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the State government came with this great initiative and AKH-TRACADA is set to leverage its expertise and reach to support Cross River State government in this complex challenge head-on.

Through this proposed strategic partnership, AKH-TRACADA wish to work collaboratively with government in Advocacy Initiatives by raising awareness about the dangers of illicit drug use and promote prevention strategies through targeted advocacy campaigns, educational programs, and community outreach activities.

“AKH-TRACADA will engage stakeholder by fostering partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, healthcare professionals, and other key stakeholders to mobilize support for comprehensive drug control initiatives” the statement concluded.

It is on record that AKH-TARACADA had before now submitted a Proposal the Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs for the Establishment of the Cross River State Child Protection Commission as the implementation machinery for the State Child Rights Law.
