AKH-TRACADA hails FG for compulsory NDLEA Integrity Drug Test for undergraduates

An NGO in the forefront of drug abuse fight, Anti – kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drugs Abuse Initiative (AKH – TRACADA) has commended the federal government for taking initiative to implement the proposed compulsory NDLEA Integrity Drug Test for all students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
AKH-TRACADA who made this known in a press statement in Abuja Tuesday signed by its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Primate Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, applauded the duo of Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa and Chairman of National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd) for implementing the compulsory integrity drug test.
Ezeanyaeche however, urged for the inclusion of candidates writing the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as a way of making them to stay out of illicit substance.
Continuing, Ezeanyaeche also called for inclusion of commercial drivers, especially those driving lorries and buses before issuance or renewal of driver’s licenses, stressing that it should be at six-month intervals for such drivers’ integrity test to restore sanity in our roads.
His words, “I wish to commend Education Minister, Tunji Alausa and Chairman of the NDLEA, Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), on their popular decision to mandate students of tertiary institutions to undergo the compulsory NDLEA Integrity Drug Test.
“As proposed by AKH-TRACADA before now, we wish to reiterate the call for the inclusion of candidates writing the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as a way of making them stay out of illicit substance.
“Commercial drivers, especially those driving lorries and buses should also be tested before issuance or renewal of driver’s licenses at six-month intervals to restore sanity in our roads” he said.
It could be recalled that AKH-TRACADA over one month ago in Abuja called on the NDLEA to introduce compulsory drug testing for major national institutions and road safety protocols in Nigeria.
This was communicated by its Founder and National President, Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, while reiterating the commitment of AKH-TRACADA to collaborate with relevant government agencies to ensure that the drug testing initiative becomes a permanent policy in Nigeria.
