Workplace Peacedesk ‘ll mitigate surging conflicts, humanitarian burden – Bakut

Director General of Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Bakut Tswah Bakut said the Workplace Conflict Peacedesk initiated by the institute would cushion the surging cases of conflicts in the country with attendant humanitarian burden.

Bakut who made this known at the two (2) day capacity building programme for IPCR Pilot Peacedesk Management Committee & North Central Workplace Conflict Peacedesk Officers in Abuja Wednesday said the surging cases of conflicts in the country with attendant humanitarian burden made it imperative for the Institute to strategically design various strategies for peace promotion.

Bakut represented by Ms. Hephzibah Ladi Achanya said It has been observed that there are debilitating issues of conflicts in the various geo-political zones, as a result of herders-farmer conflicts, ethno-religious violence, communal clashes, cult gang attacks and terrorism which had caused avoidable death of very resourceful Nigerians.

Continuing, he said the urgent need to galvanize workplaces and the future Nigeria societies into a cohesive and peaceful state devoid of violence, made the Institute conceptualize the initiative to mainstreaming – Peace into Workplaces, Development Programmes and Projects through Establishment of PeaceDesks.

His words, “The surging cases of conflicts in the country with attendant humanitarian burden made it imperative for the Institute to strategically design various strategies for peace promotion and peacebuilding, including this initiative that brought all of you here today.

“It has been observed that there are debilitating issues of conflicts in the various geo-political zones, as a result of herders-farmer conflicts, ethno-religious violence, communal clashes, cult gang attacks and terrorism.

Speaking on “Workplace PeaceDesk: How far?” former Head of IPCR Directorate, Ms. Hephzibah Ladi Achanya said workers are productive assets to the nation and there is need to institute workplace PeaceDesk to enhance productivity and harmonious relations for national development.

Giving a perspective on “Introduction to Workplace PeaceDesk” Steve Agbo stressed the importance of peace in every sector of the economy for transformation and national growth.

Andy Nkemneme noted that the aim of the discussion was to mainstream peace in all MDAs to make it viable and to function maximally for the benefit of all.
